India is changing – what about you?

* India is changing – what about you?

There was a time, not too long ago, when companies paid software developers
just enough to keep them from quitting and the developers worked just enough
to keep from getting fired.

Times have changed. India is Changing. Our programmers are now learning the best work cultures from every corner of the world and bringing it back to India.

Programmers have become more ambitious, more goal oriented.
They are working harder now. Learning new technologies faster now.
They are not afraid to complain if they bosses try to fleece them.

The best Professionals are now looking towards small and medium sized
companies as it offers them a better chance to grow. If the company
they work for has a poor management and poor growth plans, the professionals
are quitting.

The bosses have improved. They now put forward the welfare of their employees
and their customers over temporary profits. They are turning into leaders rather
than managers. They set examples now instead of the usual stick & carrots.

If your company is facing the attrition problem, if good people keep leaving you,
then know this – It is time to change now. Otherwise, you will soon perish.

If you, as an employee, are not going the extra mile regularly, not having the habit of giving more than you get paid for, then know this – It is time to change now. A new generation of Programmers is coming up – kids who were born with laptops and learnt Java alongside History. When this new age programmers enter the market, the company will be the first to ‘End your contract’. Unless, you change of course.

In my own experience, I have learn two things. What employees will do for a company is very very less from what they are capable of. Also, what bosses can do to make their company reach new heights is much much more than what they do. And the reason for both doing what they do is not that they are in the wrong places, it is just that neither is aware of what they are capable of.

Discover yourself. Find your potentials. 90% of people can exponentially increase their income by just adding one more skill to their current skillset. 90% people are just one skill short of success.

Each and every one of us, including you, as you read this blog post, has infinite, infinite powers among us. We just fail to see it.

If you are on the internet, you already have everything you need to succeed. Your age does not matter – the fact that you are alive itself is the biggest gift you have. You know, a hundred years ago, billions of people died – and none of them wanted to. There are millionaires who are now dead, and they would give everything they had just to get 1 year of life. Time, life, is the costliest thing.
They minutes you spent reading this – you cannot buy them back, now for a trillion dollars. There are trillions of souls who died in the millions of years that have passed. About 20,000 days from now, most of us will be dead too.

If you are on the Internet, you know English. You have a computer, you are educated better than Dhirubhai Ambani. All that Ambani had in his first office was a Table, three chairs and one Phone. You have much more – just one thing is missing – Belief.

The Founder of KFC, Colonel Sanders, did not have high school education. His stepfather beat him out of his house when he was 12 years old. At the age of 65, he was a financial failure and got a check of $105 as social security. He decided – Enough. No more. He went on to a 1000+ restaurants to convince them to sell his chicken recipe. The rest is history. If he started at 65 – how old are you?

As you sit reading this, there are people in Kolkata itself who are spending more in a day than you make in a month. What is the difference between them and you? Did God make you with a smaller brain? I guess no. A smaller heart? Surely, No. The only difference between them and you is the software – your beliefs about how much you are worth and how much you can do. All you need to do is to do a format of your brain, and install the same beliefs that Ambani, Bill and Tatas share.

My journey started about 8-9 months back, when I discovered happiness. I was into business for 8 years , having seen some good times and some bad ones. I was at a personal low in my life, when I found happiness. Not through my own techniques, but through those I learned from reading several books by the greatest people. Since then, my career has simply taken off.

If you reached the end of this message, know this – 90% people who start never finish reading this. The fact that you did means you have everything and you are also perhaps just one skill short. Maybe that skill is knowing how to be happy, maybe that is managing finances, maybe that is public speaking, maybe ….

I invite you to find your goal and your happiness – at one of our Free seminars / workshops at our Kolkata office. I am just an ordinary teacher with extraordinary dreams.

* Why you should become an Entrepreneur

How many Push ups can you do?
10? 20? 50?

If I put a gun on your head, how many?
Here is what you would do – First, you’d do 20 pushups. Then, you would rest for a minute. Again, you would do another ten. You wait for another minute. Then, again another ten. And this goes on.
This is how entrepreneurs work.

Motivation?
Once you become an entrepreneur, you are your own boss. You keep the gun on your own head. You make big commitments to yourself, and the people around you. You keep making the wrong decisions, then realize that to prove to the world that you did not make a mistake, you stretch yourself.
You work hard to make sure that the commitments you made publicly do not land you in an embarrassing situation.
Like Ratan Tata said “I do not believe in making the Correct decisions, I decide, then I make it right.” Who needs motivation to work hard if most of the time you are working hard to save your own face?

Once you do this a few times, you realize that if you keep stretching yourself, keep demanding from yourself more than you can easily achieve, you become more. You feel the power inside you that you never knew existed. You realize that you can do anything – you only have to decide and believe you can do it.

What you get:
Profits become a by-product. Money, power and fame become by-products. The real fruits you enjoy are the journey itself
and the satisfaction of knowing you are growing every day – growing into something bigger and better – and that is what our soul wants – to grow.

Fear:
The biggest fear people have is that if they become entrepreneurs, they will spoil their career.
I never saw an entrepreneur who failed, tried getting a job, and did worse than an average employee. Whenever a company goes down, the employees go down, the only people who never lose money are the ones who started it – they exit just before.
You can then get a job too. I have met and talked with thousands of professionals in Kolkata and seen too many such cases. There are too many examples to justify very clearly that most ex-entrepreneurs get hired directly at top positions by companies.

Uh-oh:
If you don’t try to become an entrepreneur, here is something to consider. The average salary in TCS (India’s #1 Software company) is Rs. 5,29,307. After taxes, the monthly salary is like 40k pm. An average Taxi driver in Kolkata earns about 30k pm. And he does not need to spend on branded clothes, car loans etc. To be happy, men need to grow professionally. Women may get happy by having a great family, kids, love etc. When it comes to men, I know, we need professional growth or we go right into depression. Yes, you can grow in TCS, however, do you think that all the 2.5 Lakh employees of TCS will be promoted to Directors in the next few years?

By becoming an entrepreneur, you bring competition, lower prices, increase quality, employ people, thereby, you spread happiness. Go, do it. You just have about 20,000/- days to live.

Due to bad economic conditions, most big companies like Infosys, Wipro are not hiring freshers. Big companies like Microsoft have reported their first ever losses, and very few offcampus / campus interviews are happening.

FreshersIndia is experienced in dealing with recessions – in the last recession (2009), we were able to place hundreds of freshers in small companies.
Here is what you can do to get a job before Puja, 2012.

Technique 1:
Shoot your CV to as many companies as possible.
Most companies, at all levels, almost always have a vacancy or two. Sometimes, since the vacancy is small, they do not advertise and therefore you may not come to know about it. It is a good idea to send your CV to as many companies as possible. While 95% companies will just delete your CV, there are freshers who send their CVs to hundreds of companies and got great breaks.
Here is a small list of companies to get you started:
http://freshersindia.com/Kolkata_IT_Companies.html

Technique 2:
Target Small Companies: There are more than 250 Small companies in Kolkata. They are all willing to take freshers as long as the fresher knows the technology on which they work on pretty well. These companies mostly work on Advanced PHP technologies like Joomla, Smarty, WordPress, Drupal, OSCommerce etc. If you learn any of these well enough, you are sure to get a job. These companies do not look for good marks or good english. They just want readymade people who can start to work immediately without any training required.

Technique 3:
Learn a new technology: The easiest way to get a job in software is to learn the very latest technology. Android Developers, iOS Developers, HTML5, JQuery Mobile – there are several such technologies that are having huge growth in recent times and as a result it is impossible for companies to find good resources here. If you can take the extra pain on learning any of these, you can sure get a job immediately.

Technique 4:
Do a course. There are several good training institutes in Kolkata. Just make sure you have these three things before you join any institute:

  • References from reliable sources: If none of your friends have ever gone to the institute, you should NOT, too. GO only to institutes whose names are recommended by people you know.
  • Written Guarantees BEFORE you make the payments: Most institutes will guarantee you a placement. Make sure you have a written, signed copy of the guarantee before you join it.
  • A TRY before you Pay option : All software which you can buy can be tried before you make the payment. Then why should a software institute not have the same option? Any genuine institute will let you do the classes for a few days before you make the payment. At FreshersIndia institute, you can do classes for 12 days and test the trainers quality Before you make the payments.
  • Many institutes spend on decorating their office instead of providing quality training. Be smart! Be Careful! Insist on references, written Guarantees and terms and conditions.
  • Many Institutes offer a Guarantee, but there is a catch. You have to pass all their tests they will take after giving you the guarantee. Of course, they will just have a very tough test and force you to fail!

FreshersIndia is the only institute which will safeguard your interest. All five above.

Bing: B ing I s N ot G oogle. And Smarty is not Smart.

We, software developers are incredibly bad at naming things. We try to make every new software sound stylish – which in turn means ending up with names that have no relation to their meaning.

Take for example the following names and what they mean

Smarty = A very silly class developed in PHP that is used to separate the
business logic from the presentation logic. They could have named it
something simpler like PHP Template Class. But no, they must choose a smart
name. The result? anybody who does not know Smarty thinks its difficult and
tries to avoid it – and those who know this silly Class, wonder what’s so
Smart about it

Ajax = Asynchronous JavaScript and XML.
I know experienced web developers who avoided this for years because it sounded
so complicated and perplexing. Good name, sounds stylish.
I know ajax inside out, and believe me, it is a very easy, simple topic that you
can master in a day or two. In short, it is just a good JS class.

Magento = Any guess from the name what this means? Surprise, it is a readymade customizable shopping cart script built in PHP.

The problem with these names is that it makes easy things hard to remember. Also, many times, to people who are new, these names mislead them into understanding the meaning. For example, take the name Python. It happens to be a general purpose programming language. What naming convention is that? What coding standard is that? What business logic is that? Maybe they expected it to gobble up C,C++ and Java. At least James Gosling named Java so because he consumed a lot of Java Coffee while creating it.

Bad nomenclature, small life of technologies ( a dog born today will live way longer than an OS or programming language born today), and shifting domains ( Desktop->Network->Web->Mobile->Cloud-????) make things more difficult for us than they should be.

Versions: As if the name itself were not bad enough, now they do it with versions. For example, Eclipse IDE is not a program to help astrologers but an IDE to write programs. Their version (not in order), are Helios, Europa, Ganymede, Galileo. And hey, Google jumps in too. So now Android versions 1,2,3,4 etc sound too boring, so they call it Donut, Froyo, Cupcake, Gingerbread, Ice Cream (not in order). Guess what they will name their last versions? Android Yeti and Android Zebra.

When I was in college, I used to think – people with strong Memory should become Doctors. And people with strong Analytic skills, problem solving skills should become programmers. Now, I realize things are changing. You need to mug up to be a software developer too. And they Copy+Paste. Alas. I feel sad.

I’ll close my laptop and go watch some movie today. Any idea what Scala, Clojure, Groovy, Eucalyptus could mean???? They sound like movie names to me.

Do you know which is the best PHP 5 Certification in India?

If you are looking for international PHP Certification, go for the ZEND Certification. In India, our Certificate is the most popular. Here are some of the reasons why FreshersIndia certification is considered the best PHP Certification in India:

  • We are India’s first PHP Institute. We have been teaching and developing projects in PHP long before you even heard of it – since 2003.
  • The highest experienced programmers are all our students – since we were the First PHP institute in India.
  • We are the most well known PHP institute – We have helped scores of small companies to start and prosper by providing them quality PHP Programmers.
  • We have the most advanced course – Our regular course is a three month full time course, classes being held daily. As a result, our students become experts in Joomla, eCommerce, Smarty, Ajax, WordPress, Cake PHP, Zend Framework, Drupal, OSCOmmerce etc.
  • We have the best placements – Just having a certificate from us is enough to land you the best PHP jobs.

We at FreshersIndia have our eyes set on Python and are following its progress very closely.

Why? you may ask.

Our job is to give jobs to freshers. To ensure the best placements, we train freshers in the latest upcoming technologies which are showing good growth.

Growth creates opportunities for new people to join. In software companies, retirement has not yet started, so if a company having 1000 employees does not grow, it will not take freshers (because no one is retiring). However, if some new technology comes up, and the starting salaries are low in that technology, experienced people will not learn it ( because of low salaries). The company will therefore have to take freshers who have done trainings in that technology ( Small companies don’t have their own training facilitites).

This is why we started PHP training in 2004, when few people had heard of it. It helped our freshers get great job offers because demand was there but no supply. Today, PHP has matured and hundreds of institutes are there with us being ranked #1.

I see the same hapening for Python in a couple of years. Python is open source and the projects are small – so we will see small web development companies taking up Python projects. Small companies are happy taking freshers with a training and their salaries don’t attract experienced programmers, so this will be one area where we can easily place Freshers.

tpci_trends

Take a look at this graph showing the growth of Pthon in the last 5 years.  Ruby is close as well.

So when the first vacancies in Python / Ruby opens up in companies of West Bengal,  we will be the first to place our freshers there!

Our New office in Salt Lake coming up

This post comes after a long break. I’ve been very busy last few days. Juggling clients, projects and interviews for freshers and looking for the perfect office in SaltLake.

After visiting each and every corner of salt lake, I decided on one. The address is AJ-118, Salt Lake.

Here are the reasons I chose this office:

1. It is 3 minutes from sector V – the place all freshers want to be.

2. It is 2 minutes from Karunamoyee ( 10 minutes if you walk ).

3. Buses like C8 coming from south kolkata ( tollygunge ) come directly to the office. The bus stand of the Bus 206 ( Saltlake – Santoshpur ) is just 50 meters from the office.

4. A footbridge that connects Salt Lake to Keshtopur is about 2 minutes walk from the office.

Finding the perfect place so that convenience of all freshers are taken care of was hard.

The next week will be spent assigning work to Carpenters, painters, electricians and plumbers.

And hey freshers, get ready for some fabulous offers as soon as our new office is ready. I plan to give 75% discount as inaugural offer!

You started it, now you clean it up!

When I started out training in PHP in 2004, I never new it would become so big. There were only a handful of companies working on it at that time, it was a small technology unknown and untouched that I used to get my freshers get an easy job.

Things have changed. PHP has now become number one, and a couple of hundred companies have started up in Kolkata itself.  Now, PHP has become the #1 training for Freshers.

Till 2007, the big companies like TCS, WIpro, Infy.. etc were recruiting thousands and thousands of freshers from all over India. If a fresher was any good, he’d get a job in one of those companies. From 2008, things started going bad. Eventually, in 2009, due tothe recession, there has been no placements.

So while till 2007, the cream freshers never went for PHP, now the trend has reversed. The best , the toppers, having no job, are giving their best shot to PHP, and so, the quality of PHP programmers is shooting up.

There was never a good time for PHP companies!

On the darker side, competition has increased in PHP. To counter it, we doubled the syllabus of our course, as well as its duration. The price was raised by 20% (Sorry for that, but had to!). We now teach LAMP, Ajax, Smarty, Paypal, Joomla etc. to freshers in our MVT Course ( PHP COurse).

The companies find that even the experienced demanding Rs.12,000+ per month don’t know as much as our freshers, who would happily work for half that salary. To top it, these freshers have a much better aptitude, communication skills level that them! The companiens find the freshers a little slow, but that isn’t much of a concern since projects are a little slow ( slowdown!) and their savings are great.

So we’re replacing old, coslty and outdated programmers in these PHP companies with fresh, modern, efficient and intelligent programmers. I have now been suggested by one company to start teaching tools like Eclipse for PHP (PDT developed by IBM ) as well, which we’ll do soon. The projects in average PHP companiens are a mess – they follow little coding standards, and almost no project management / bug tracking tools are used. Now with our army of Web2.0 programmers, I intend to change that.

I started PHP in kolkata, so it’s my job to clean it up.

Mail Me

I’ve decided to provide 100% free training of PHP language to everybody.

Why?

Because PHP has given me so much, I should give it back something too.

Any Fresher is welcome to join our training “PHP in 24 hours” without any charges.

At the end of the training, you will be able to write programs in PHP and execute them. This is not a cerification course.

Cheers!
