* Why you should become an Entrepreneur

How many Push ups can you do?
10? 20? 50?

If I put a gun on your head, how many?
Here is what you would do – First, you’d do 20 pushups. Then, you would rest for a minute. Again, you would do another ten. You wait for another minute. Then, again another ten. And this goes on.
This is how entrepreneurs work.

Motivation?
Once you become an entrepreneur, you are your own boss. You keep the gun on your own head. You make big commitments to yourself, and the people around you. You keep making the wrong decisions, then realize that to prove to the world that you did not make a mistake, you stretch yourself.
You work hard to make sure that the commitments you made publicly do not land you in an embarrassing situation.
Like Ratan Tata said “I do not believe in making the Correct decisions, I decide, then I make it right.” Who needs motivation to work hard if most of the time you are working hard to save your own face?

Once you do this a few times, you realize that if you keep stretching yourself, keep demanding from yourself more than you can easily achieve, you become more. You feel the power inside you that you never knew existed. You realize that you can do anything – you only have to decide and believe you can do it.

What you get:
Profits become a by-product. Money, power and fame become by-products. The real fruits you enjoy are the journey itself
and the satisfaction of knowing you are growing every day – growing into something bigger and better – and that is what our soul wants – to grow.

Fear:
The biggest fear people have is that if they become entrepreneurs, they will spoil their career.
I never saw an entrepreneur who failed, tried getting a job, and did worse than an average employee. Whenever a company goes down, the employees go down, the only people who never lose money are the ones who started it – they exit just before.
You can then get a job too. I have met and talked with thousands of professionals in Kolkata and seen too many such cases. There are too many examples to justify very clearly that most ex-entrepreneurs get hired directly at top positions by companies.

Uh-oh:
If you don’t try to become an entrepreneur, here is something to consider. The average salary in TCS (India’s #1 Software company) is Rs. 5,29,307. After taxes, the monthly salary is like 40k pm. An average Taxi driver in Kolkata earns about 30k pm. And he does not need to spend on branded clothes, car loans etc. To be happy, men need to grow professionally. Women may get happy by having a great family, kids, love etc. When it comes to men, I know, we need professional growth or we go right into depression. Yes, you can grow in TCS, however, do you think that all the 2.5 Lakh employees of TCS will be promoted to Directors in the next few years?

By becoming an entrepreneur, you bring competition, lower prices, increase quality, employ people, thereby, you spread happiness. Go, do it. You just have about 20,000/- days to live.

How to make more money. Tips for Salaried People.

How to make more money.

#Tips for Salaried People.

1. There are people who make Rs.5000/- in a month.
For some corporate trainings, companies pay me Rs.5000 an hour.
There are doctors who charge 5 lakh for an hours operation.
A singer named Adele charges more than 5 crore to sing for an hour.
Question: How do you explain this difference?
Answer: You don’t get paid for time, you get paid for the Value you give in return.

2. The Govt. teaches us to demand what we deserve.
This is wrong. Nobody gets rich by demanding. You get rich by becoming the best in what you do, showing results and giving an outstanding performance.
If you get Rs.5000 a month, and you form a group, demand, sit on strike, you can’t make Rs.50,000. You can demand only small increase, you cannot multiply. To multiply your income, start performing better than anybody else.

Spend more effort in Improving your Value than the effort you spend in your Job to make money.

3. Make it a habit to always give much more than what is expected from you.
If you want to keep stepping up the corporate ladder, keep getting promotions, here is the most important tip – In whatever you do, whenever you do, put in more effort than is expected, show better results than is expected. Work harder and do it in a pleasing state of mind, do it smiling and love what you do. This will make you unstoppable.

4. Whenever you get a job offer, you ask – What will I get?
Focus on what you are becoming, not what you are getting. The only way to earn may times is to increase your own value. If the current job is paying good, but your value is not increasing, it is a bad investment.

5. Bad times will Always come, and so will good times.
It is morning now, and soon it will be night. You cannot stop it, at least on this earth. It is summer now and winter will come. Undoubtably. If you are happy now, bad times will come. If you are sad now, good times will also definitly come. This is life and you cannot change it, this has been so ever since man was born.
What you can and need to change is yourself. Here is what to do in good times – Keep thinking about bad times when you are in good times, save money for the bad times, work harder for the bad times, because for sure, they will come.
When in bad times, just keep thinking of the good times and prepare to make the most of it as soon as it comes.

6. Get yourself into action.
You have to make your powerful mind to obey your commands. Make everything important “A Must Do NOW”, instead of a “I should do this soon”.

Due to bad economic conditions, most big companies like Infosys, Wipro are not hiring freshers. Big companies like Microsoft have reported their first ever losses, and very few offcampus / campus interviews are happening.

FreshersIndia is experienced in dealing with recessions – in the last recession (2009), we were able to place hundreds of freshers in small companies.
Here is what you can do to get a job before Puja, 2012.

Technique 1:
Shoot your CV to as many companies as possible.
Most companies, at all levels, almost always have a vacancy or two. Sometimes, since the vacancy is small, they do not advertise and therefore you may not come to know about it. It is a good idea to send your CV to as many companies as possible. While 95% companies will just delete your CV, there are freshers who send their CVs to hundreds of companies and got great breaks.
Here is a small list of companies to get you started:
http://freshersindia.com/Kolkata_IT_Companies.html

Technique 2:
Target Small Companies: There are more than 250 Small companies in Kolkata. They are all willing to take freshers as long as the fresher knows the technology on which they work on pretty well. These companies mostly work on Advanced PHP technologies like Joomla, Smarty, WordPress, Drupal, OSCommerce etc. If you learn any of these well enough, you are sure to get a job. These companies do not look for good marks or good english. They just want readymade people who can start to work immediately without any training required.

Technique 3:
Learn a new technology: The easiest way to get a job in software is to learn the very latest technology. Android Developers, iOS Developers, HTML5, JQuery Mobile – there are several such technologies that are having huge growth in recent times and as a result it is impossible for companies to find good resources here. If you can take the extra pain on learning any of these, you can sure get a job immediately.

Technique 4:
Do a course. There are several good training institutes in Kolkata. Just make sure you have these three things before you join any institute:

  • References from reliable sources: If none of your friends have ever gone to the institute, you should NOT, too. GO only to institutes whose names are recommended by people you know.
  • Written Guarantees BEFORE you make the payments: Most institutes will guarantee you a placement. Make sure you have a written, signed copy of the guarantee before you join it.
  • A TRY before you Pay option : All software which you can buy can be tried before you make the payment. Then why should a software institute not have the same option? Any genuine institute will let you do the classes for a few days before you make the payment. At FreshersIndia institute, you can do classes for 12 days and test the trainers quality Before you make the payments.
  • Many institutes spend on decorating their office instead of providing quality training. Be smart! Be Careful! Insist on references, written Guarantees and terms and conditions.
  • Many Institutes offer a Guarantee, but there is a catch. You have to pass all their tests they will take after giving you the guarantee. Of course, they will just have a very tough test and force you to fail!

FreshersIndia is the only institute which will safeguard your interest. All five above.

Pray to God you never get questions like these. But if you do, here are a few examples to help you out.

Question 1: If you throw a red stone in a blue sea what will it become?
Answer: It will become wet. And it will sink.

Question 2: Do you know how to drop an egg onto a concrete floor without cracking it?
Answer: Easy. Just drop the egg. Concrete floors are very hard so the floor will not crack!

Question 3: What looks like half an apple?
Answer: The other half

Question 4: How can a man go eight days without sleep?
Answer: No problem. He sleeps at night.

Question 5: What will you do if I run away with your sister?
Answer: The candidate who was selected answered ” I will not get a better match for my sister than you, sir.”

Question 6: Interviewer (to a student girl candidate) – What if one morning you woke up & found that you were pregnant ?
Answer: I will be very excited and take a day off, to celebrate with my husband. (Normally an unmarried girl will be shocked to hear this, but she managed it well. Why should I think it in the wrong way, she said later when asked.)

Question 7: Interviewer: He ordered a cup of coffee for the candidate. Coffee arrived and was kept before the candidate, then he asked “What is before you?”
Answer: Candidate: Instantly replied “Tea” and got selected.

(You know how and why did he say “TEA” when he knows very well that coffee was kept before him?.
Answer: The question was “What is before you U? (-alphabet). Reply was “TEA” T (- alphabet).

Question 8: You are driving along in your car on a wild, stormy night, it’s raining heavily, when suddenly you pass by a bus stop, and you see three people waiting for a bus:

An old lady who looks as if she is about to die.
An old friend who once saved your life.
The perfect partner you have been dreaming about.

Which one would you choose to offer a ride to, knowing very well that there could only be one passenger in your car?

This is a moral/ethical dilemma that was once actually used as part of a job application.

* You could pick up the old lady, because she is going to die, and thus you should save her first; * or you could take the old friend because he once saved your life, and this would be the perfect chance to ! pay him back. *
However, you may never be able to find your perfect mate again…

Answer: The candidate who was hired (out of 200 applicants) had no trouble coming up with his answer. Guess what was his answer?

He simply answered:

“I would give the car keys to my Old friend and let him take the lady to the hospital. I would stay behind and wait for the bus with the partner of my dreams.”

Question 9: What can you never eat for breakfast?
Answer: Dinner.

Question 10: The interviewer asked the candidate “This is your last question of the interview. Please tell me the exact position of the center of this table.”
Answer: Candidate confidently put one of his finger at some point at the table and said that this was the central point at the table. Interviewer asked “how did you decide that this is the central point of this table?”, then he answers quickly that “Sir you are not supposed to ask any more question, as it was the last question as you promised …..
And hence, he was selected as because of his quick-wittedness.

. Please note that I have not made these questions/answers myself, I collected them from several sources – so you can perform better in such interview.

Are you a Naukri.com fan? Then you’ll love this.

Check out this website , www.indeed.com .

If you do a search on it, it will return jobs from Naukri.com, Monster, TimesJobs, Jobsahead etc.

You don’t have to register on all the jobsites. Just go to Indeed and you will get results from all the jobsites, all in one place. Isn’t that just great?

Check out : www.indeed.com .

That is not all. Indeed also returns results from the websites of big companies like IBM, Google, Microsoft etc.

For example,  if you search on Indeed ” Java jobs in Kolkata”, it will return results from all jobsites and all companies websites too.

While Monster.com is the world’s #1 JobSite, Indeed stands at number 2. India’s number 1 Naukri.com comes a little below, since the hindi word “Naukri” is not internationally popular. For example, will a German programmer understand what the word “Naukri” means?

Oh. I am so angry.

I received about 4 proposals last month, by different companies, agents, colleges. Proposals so gross it made me sick in my stomach.

This is one example, a broker from Bangalore invited my company (IPEG Solutions) to recruit freshers from colleges. This is what he said:

Respected sir/madam,

I introduce myself to you as a campus hiring consultant as I have undertaken many drives.

I charge 5% of the fee collected by you for job guranteed program and I can place as per your requirement.

As 2010 candidates are having final exams  if you contact me we can schedule the drive.

Candidates are willing to pay 1 lac towards job gurantee provided they are given spot offer letter.

This was his offer: Recruit 50 candidates and charge 1 lakh each from them. Next, do what Infogen,Assurgent,GDsoft and Cyndrake did.

No thank you, I said. I would rather remain an honest 10 employee company than a big fake company.

He also attached a sample offer letter that I would have to give the candidates. I have attached it. You can clearly see how they will deliberatly fail you once you paid the One lakh.

Dear Freshers – You may be from a rich family and One lakh may not mean much to you. But please, please don’t fall into this. The first year for a freshers is the most important, and you do not want to spoil your future by starting the wrong way!

Attahched below is the sample offer letter the Agent sent me! How outrageous. I hope they all end up in jail.

Our New office in Salt Lake coming up

This post comes after a long break. I’ve been very busy last few days. Juggling clients, projects and interviews for freshers and looking for the perfect office in SaltLake.

After visiting each and every corner of salt lake, I decided on one. The address is AJ-118, Salt Lake.

Here are the reasons I chose this office:

1. It is 3 minutes from sector V – the place all freshers want to be.

2. It is 2 minutes from Karunamoyee ( 10 minutes if you walk ).

3. Buses like C8 coming from south kolkata ( tollygunge ) come directly to the office. The bus stand of the Bus 206 ( Saltlake – Santoshpur ) is just 50 meters from the office.

4. A footbridge that connects Salt Lake to Keshtopur is about 2 minutes walk from the office.

Finding the perfect place so that convenience of all freshers are taken care of was hard.

The next week will be spent assigning work to Carpenters, painters, electricians and plumbers.

And hey freshers, get ready for some fabulous offers as soon as our new office is ready. I plan to give 75% discount as inaugural offer!

You started it, now you clean it up!

When I started out training in PHP in 2004, I never new it would become so big. There were only a handful of companies working on it at that time, it was a small technology unknown and untouched that I used to get my freshers get an easy job.

Things have changed. PHP has now become number one, and a couple of hundred companies have started up in Kolkata itself.  Now, PHP has become the #1 training for Freshers.

Till 2007, the big companies like TCS, WIpro, Infy.. etc were recruiting thousands and thousands of freshers from all over India. If a fresher was any good, he’d get a job in one of those companies. From 2008, things started going bad. Eventually, in 2009, due tothe recession, there has been no placements.

So while till 2007, the cream freshers never went for PHP, now the trend has reversed. The best , the toppers, having no job, are giving their best shot to PHP, and so, the quality of PHP programmers is shooting up.

There was never a good time for PHP companies!

On the darker side, competition has increased in PHP. To counter it, we doubled the syllabus of our course, as well as its duration. The price was raised by 20% (Sorry for that, but had to!). We now teach LAMP, Ajax, Smarty, Paypal, Joomla etc. to freshers in our MVT Course ( PHP COurse).

The companies find that even the experienced demanding Rs.12,000+ per month don’t know as much as our freshers, who would happily work for half that salary. To top it, these freshers have a much better aptitude, communication skills level that them! The companiens find the freshers a little slow, but that isn’t much of a concern since projects are a little slow ( slowdown!) and their savings are great.

So we’re replacing old, coslty and outdated programmers in these PHP companies with fresh, modern, efficient and intelligent programmers. I have now been suggested by one company to start teaching tools like Eclipse for PHP (PDT developed by IBM ) as well, which we’ll do soon. The projects in average PHP companiens are a mess – they follow little coding standards, and almost no project management / bug tracking tools are used. Now with our army of Web2.0 programmers, I intend to change that.

I started PHP in kolkata, so it’s my job to clean it up.
